Project on Water Network Management

In this project, you will be simulating the pipe deterioration and rehabilitation of a water supply network. Using an existing stochastic model, which is implemented in R, you will run simulations to assess the performance of an entire pipe network.  You will explore different management strategies and learn the impact of these on pipe network performance indicators and will get familiar with the trade-offs that a water infrastructure manager has to face (e.g. service quality vs. costs). Ultimately, your group will be responsible for designing a long-term pipe rehabilitation strategy for a city of roughly 110,000 inhabitants. The results will be documented in a report.

Note that this project applies concepts from the lecture “Infrastructure Systems in Urban Water Management”.  Therefore, students would ideally take this lab project in combination with the lecture.
